A-Team!!!!

We've been hard at work building up a full set of the A-Team to donate to a charity silent auction to benefit the MS Society.

My personal favourite is HM Murdock by far, but maybe that's just because I'm a little crazy, just like him!

Captain HM Murdock

The best part of Murdock is his jacket!!!
Of course, BA Baracus turned out pretty great as well. I mean come on- that much glitter paper on a Cube Dude that ISN'T a Vegas Version??? He even has grey wool socks and bright red Chucks.
Sgt B.A. Baracus

Check out them feather earrings!
And who doesn't love the smirk of the world's greatest con man- Faceman! I'll admit, out of context this Cube Dude looks pretty.... generic white guy-ish. But put him beside the other three and that devilish charm starts to shine!
Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck
And of course, the leader of the pack with the ever present Cigar... Hanibal Smith! It was a little nerve wracking to light a Cube Dude on fire, but the effect of a burnt cigar is so much better than just a brown curl of paper in his mouth. Plus, the photos turned out great!

Col. John Hanibal Smith. That is authentic singe on his cigar!

Col. Hanibal Smith

The Team
Did you know that in the original TV series, the van was actually gun metal grey above the stripe, and black below? With the satin finish of the paint job, we were 4 seasons in and hadn't noticed!!! In doing the research to build this beast it was pointed out to us... and necessitated some re-designing.

If you look closely, the license plate number is also one of the plates used in the TV show. We're that kind of nerdy.
The team isn't complete without their Van. Yes, they all fit inside.

The van wouldn't be complete without a box full of guns!

Want to know how you can become the proud owner of this 1 of a kind set? Check out Victoria's Ultimate Hobby and Toy Fair, and go bid on it! This entire set has been donated- and remember, it's the ONLY ONE LIKE IT!

... And in Other News...

So the build of the 1960's Batmans (Batmen?) is all finished, and they turned out incredible. Each one is unique because the eyebrows and nose details were hand drawn on, just as they were hand painted on to Adam West's mask back in the day. The craft room is still full of glitter from the Vegas Version. As has been claimed, "If glitter is the herpes of the craft world, than Vegas Version Batman is the Charlie Sheen of Cube Dudes."

Charlie Sheen... I mean Vegas Version 1960's Batman

We've also worked out the details for the Summer 2012 contest. I'll be posting full contest rules and details on our Facebook page (have you "liked" us yet???) within the next week, but I suggest you prepare yourself by:
  1. Get yourself a Cube Dude or three. We currently have three versions for sale (subject to availability at Cherry Bomb Toys- they ARE limited edition runs after all).
  2. Grab your camera and prepare yourself for a photo frenzy
  3. "Like" Cube Dudes on Facebook and await further instructions.
Our 3 Dudes currently offered for sale...
We're just working out the final details for prizes, but we will give you ample opportunity to enter! So keep your eyes peeled for just a teensy bit longer.

And now that Batman is out of the way, we're beginning the design and prototype build for the A-Team characters to be donated and auctioned off to raise money for the MS Society at the October Toy Fair. It's pretty exciting to be working on a one of a kind project.* It's also exciting to know that the guys at Cherry Bomb Toys have also been hyping this unique set, so there is already a fan base waiting to bid on them. I'm excited to see the bidding war we can create, and curious about just how much money we can help raise.

*ok- there will be the prototypes, and the finalized donation set... so technically two, but each will be unique as we work out any bugs in the design and build between sets).

Exciting News!!!

We haven't been idle: I promise! Have you checked out our Facebook page yet? Cube Dudes were sadly sucked in to that cult as well, so if you should check it out.

We've also announced that we will be at Victoria's Ultimate Hobby and Toy Fair on October 14th.

We'll have our 3 Limited Edition Dudes available for sale (the Tick, Cthulu, and 1960's Batman), as well as some of our one-of-a-kind prototypes on display for all to see!
The Tick

Cthulu

1960's Batman
The Toy Fair also hosts a silent auction, with proceeds going to support the MS Society, and we plan on creating some one-of-a-kind Dudes to donate to the auction. Let's just say I'll love it when this plan comes together!

So Cube Dude life right now is busy trying to get everything ready. It SEEMS like October is quite a ways off, but as we're just getting ourselves off the ground, and this will be our first Toy Fair, we have a LOT that we want to do to get ready: Suggestion box, display case for Prototypes, display stand for Sale Dudes, design and build Dudes for silent auction donation, finish building the 1960's Batmans.... not to mention designing business cards and possibly even t-shirts for ourselves to wear at the show....

Busy busy busy.

Life is good!

New Prototypes!

Da-Na-na-na-na-na-na-Na-na-na-na-na-Na-na-na-na-na-Na-na-na-na-na-Na-na-na-na-na
BATMAN!!!!!

Well folks, it's been a while since I updated the blog, and in that time we've been busy! There are two new prototype Dudes in the collection!

To celebrate the release of The Dark Knight Rises, we've decided to release our very own 1960's Batman! Yes, we're HUGE Batman fans, so it only seems logical that we'd celebrate this movie. This Dude will soon be available in a limited edition run at Cherry Bomb Toys in Victoria BC.
1960's Batman!

But that's not all we've done. As a very special Fan request, we've also created a prototype of the Rocketeer! Due to the complexity of this Dude, we're still debating if we'll ever release a limited run for sale or not... it might just become something pretty for our own shelves.
The Rocketeer Front

The Rocketeer back. Check out that nifty (difficult to build) jet pack!

So there you have it folks. New Dudes to be released for sale, and new Dudes in the prototype pile!

Vegas Version Cthulu

Ok, so the Cthulu Dudes are built, and I didn't have enough time to do a full set up of the Vegas Version, but I did get a few photos. Sorry for the lack of staging, but look! He's sparkly!
Vegas Version Cthulu

Shiny!

Cthulu's are now available at Cherry Bomb Toys in Victoria, and when we dropped of these Dudes, they still had a few Ticks available! Don't miss out!

Creating a Great Old One

So, as mentioned, the winner of the Favourite Cube Dude vote was Cthulu, so we are making a limited edition run for sale.

Let the Cutting Begin!

Lots and LOTS of cutting = lots of recycling

And once it's cut, be careful not to tear it

Adding extra detailing to the wings

Yes, this is a stack of paper Cthulu faces

Cube Dudes: Fueled by Dr. Pepper!

How do you spend YOUR Saturday nights?

Keeping all the pieces organized

Yes, each hand has 8 claws individually glued. on. 16 Dudes, 2 hands each, 4 fingers per hand, 2 sides per finger....
We hope to have the Cthulu Dudes built and in to Cherry Bomb Toys by the end of April, so if you're anxiously waiting a chance to buy him, they will be available early May!

Monday, April 16, 2012

And the winner is...

Cthulu! Next Cube available for sale will be Cthulu. This will be a limited edition run, so be sure to watch for when they become available so you don't miss out.

15 Minutes of Fame!

A few weeks back there was Victoria's Ultimate Hobby and Toy Fair. This event is put on twice a year, organized by our all-time favourite store, Cherry Bomb Toys. Somehow, amidst all of the media frenzy advertising the show before April 1st, this little article came about.

Notice the 3 Cube Dude prototypes proudly on display. Awesome!

Saanich News: Friday, March 30, 2012
Needless to say, the Toy Fair was awesome, and we spent over 5 hours (and a lot of money) on some wicked awesome toys. Even managed to score a sweet 1:18 A-Team Van to use as inspiration for an upcoming Cube Dude project (and because, you know, the A-Team rules).

Concepts and Ideas

It all starts with passion. Either a love for a character such as Perry the Platypus generates a desire to build the Dude, or someone else suggests someone with so much adoration and passion that it becomes difficult to say no.

Currently there are two ideas bouncing around for prototype creation. First up is The Rocketeer, as suggested by a friend.

Personally I'm excited to see how the jet pack is done, and that helmet is just beautiful. I can't wait to see them Cubed up.

After the Rocketeer, we've got an idea for a single run to donate to a charity auction next fall: The A-team with their van.

All of this while trying to renovate the house and working our day jobs! I'll keep you posted on how progress is going on these two exciting new projects.
